Os Gêmeos (Portugese for “The Twins”) are Gustavo and Otávio Pandolfo, artists from São Paulo, Brazil that have managed to accomplish what most graffiti artists dream of; to have created a global series of instantly-recognizable works of public art, the caliber of which transcends their ephemeral nature — or more simply, beautiful in a way that they tend not to get painted over.
Much in the way of Keith Haring and Barry McGee, they have crossed over from illicit street art to the world of Fine Art, creating site-specific installations for the likes of the 2006 Armory Show in New York, and this Summer’s Street Art show at the Tate Modern.
But (often illegal) art for public consumption has a kind of soul to it that is difficult to capture in consecrated art spaces. So here are some of their outdoor works in places as disparate as São Paolo, Berlin, and Cincinnati.
